After Earth Hour - what now?

Okay, so now many of you turned off your lights on Saturday. It made us feel like we participated in something big, as this was a global event. Well, I don't know about you, but both my teenage daughter and I felt this way. It's so amazing to watch pictures of official buildings all around the world going black, but watching all the lights coming from my many neighbours, made me a bit disappointed.

So, after Earth Hour, what now? Do these actions have an effect? And if they do, what is the effect? We haven't saved the environment yet, and certainly not by turning off a few lights for an hour. So what was Earth Hour good for? I've read somewhere that some scientists claim this event was totally meaningless, that the climate crisis will not be solved by only turning off the lights for one hour. Some people even claim that we release more Co2 by lighting candles than we do with the electric lights. I've also heard people say that they never participate in events like this, because they don't like others telling them what to do. Well, all of this is a little beside the point, isn't it? I thought that the point with Earth Hour was to make more people a little more aware of the environment and the climate, not to solve this crisis right away.

Well, I know I'm getting better at turning off unnecessary light at home. Most of the time I have no choice, as my daughter keeps reminding me to do so. And we had a very nice time together last Saturday, playing board games in the candle light. Perhaps we should have an Earth Hour every Saturday?

Let it snow, let it snow ...

(Picture taken in february)

It's snowing! Just as I was getting used to the idea of spring, it's again falling a lot of that white stuff outside. And, of course, when it snows, the traffic jams up...one should think that in this country the drivers know how to master a snowy road - but no. Actually, I'm quite pleased I don't even own a car! I don't have to worry about parking and other reckless drivers. I don't need to remove snow and ice from the car early in the morning when it's freezing outside... Today with all the traffic jams, walking is the best way to get around - and there's always the subway when I'm going a bit further away.

Deep down I know this is just winters way of saying goodbye. In a few days, most of this snow is gone again - and this time probably for good. Then we may enjoy spring again, and look forward to a season of warmer days and nights, leaving scarfs and mittens at home.

A bad day

I'm having a bad day today. My body is aching, and I'm not feeling so good. Feels like I'm coming down with a bad cold. And it's only about a month since the last cold, and that time I was ill for a week. I don't have time for this now, I'm already falling behind on my studying. I find it very hard today to keep my optimism...ah well, I will stay on the sofa today and try to find some hope that I will feel better soon.

Usually it takes a few days to break in new shoes, but not with these ones! I've been wearing them at home for a couple of hours this afternoon, and they already feels like heaven on my feet.

My new blog

I've been thinking about blogging for quite some time now, but I've been wanting to prioritize my studies. I haven't had the conscience to spend time blogging instead of studying. But now I've decided that a few minutes a day won't take too much time away from the books, don't you agree? Perhaps I'm kidding myself, but that will be my problem.

I need a place to express my thoughts about life and the world around me/us, so; here I am. Blogging. Me blogging.

I want to write mostly in English, because I believe that all of us are only small parts of a bigger world. Sometimes though, I may have to write in Norwegian, if my English should fail me.

So, who am I?
I'm in my late thirties, single mom to a beautiful and gorgeous girl in her early teens. I'm currently a student; working on my bachelor degree in Educational science. Final exams are in June, so I will start looking for work soon. I've been through my fair share of ups and downs in my life, I am now working for a better life.
Most importantly: I'm optimistic until proven wrong.

I believe in the power of human kind.
I believe that what comes around, goes around.

I believe very strongly that everything will be alright.

I'm interested in politics, self theories, motivation, human rights, the environment, the world around us, good music, good books, good movies, travelling and good food.

I will write about the things that interests me, about everything and anything that should fall into my head.
